This district is adjacent to the borders of India, Tibet, and Nepal and has an area of approximately 6,090 square kilometers. This district was carved out of Almora and its headquarters is Pithoragarh city.
Pithoragarh was founded by King Pithoraaj, after whom this place was named. The district was established based on the political need of the time when there was a need to strengthen security in the border areas of India, Tibet, and Nepal.
